Dr. Bo Ning serves as the senior materials advisor at KnightHawk Engineering. He specializes in materials testing and examination, failure analysis and materials selection and recommendations. He has extensive knowledge in material science, physical metallurgy, thin film and coating development, with over 15 years of hands-on experience in operating SEM, TEM, XRD, and other material testing instruments. Dr. Ning received his Ph.D (2005) and MS (2004) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the University of Alabama. His research work is widely published on Surface and Coatings Technologies, Journal of Vacuum Science and Technology, and other peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Corleto is the Director of the KnightHawk Engineering Materials Lab. He has over 25 years experience in deformation & fracture mechanisms, fracture mechanics, finite element stress analysis (FEA), computational fluid dynamics (CFD), materials science, process-structure-property relationships, failure analysis, and modeling. Prior to working for KnightHawk, Dr. Corleto held various positions in TOTAL Petrochemicals, USA, Inc. from 1999 to 2009. Technical work focused primarily in the Material Science area, FEA, CFD, failure analysis, fracture mechanics. While at Total, Dr. Corleto received “Best Analytical Development Innovation Award in 2007 amongst European and US company researchers”, and managed a Polystyrene Pilot Plant for two years. Prior to working at TOTAL, Dr. Corleto taught Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University-Kingsville as an Assistant/Associate Professor (Tenured) of the Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering Department. He taught undergraduate and graduate courses in static and dynamics, material science, finite elements, deformation and fracture mechanics, strength of materials, and freshmen engineering foundation courses. Dr. Corleto received his PhD (1990), MS (1986), and BS (1984) from Texas A&M University. Dr. Corleto conducted his Doctorate thesis on “Mode II Delamination Fracture Characterization of Fiber Reinforced Composite Materials” under committee Chair Dr. Walter Bradley. Dr. Corleto has four patents and multiple publications in technical journals and conference proceedings.
Hoon Kim, Ph.D., P.E. is a Senior Materials & Metallurgical Consultant for KnightHawk Engineering (KHE), where he consults and provides leadership to our Metallurgical and Materials Lab as well as consults on KHE specialty engineering projects. This includes materials selection, specifications, characterization, utilization, and handling, utilizing metallurgical, chemical, mechanical and non destructive testing. Dr. Kim, P.E. has over 40 years experience in material technology and handling in the petrochemical and power industry. His expertise includes design, failure analysis, and troubleshooting of materials handling equipment by metallurgical testing, investigation and process analysis. Dr. Kim, P.E. recently worked for General Electric and GreatPoint Energy where he specialized in coal gasification technology development, encompassing feed stock handling and preparation, catalyst loading, catalyst recovery from the leaching of the gasifier residue and residue handling. Dr. Kim, P.E. previously worked for KHE, where he consulted and assisted with our Metallurgical and Materials Services as described above. Prior to that Dr. Kim, P.E. worked for Exxon where he specialized in material handling equipment specification and design for new processes and troubleshooting of existing systems such as conveyor and crushing equipment for Mining, Petrochemical, Process, and Power Industry applications. He also previously worked for Freeport Minerals Company and the University of Utah where he designed crushing and conveyor systems for surface mining operations. Dr. Kim, P.E. received his US Citizenship in 1985. He received his Ph.D. in Metallurgy in 1974, focusing on Minerals Processing from the University of Utah, his Master of Science in Physical Metallurgy from the University of British Columbia and his Bachelor of Science was in Metallurgical Engineering from Seoul National University.
